What Happens After “Amen"?
Hi Daddy,
The imaginative part of me keeps picturing an angel coming to tell You, “Oh, she just finished praying, and she said this and that,” and You decide which prayers to answer now and which ones can wait.
I remember praying about one specific thing for three years straight. By the third year, I’d prayed it every way I knew how. I reminded You of Your word, set exact timelines, and pleaded for it to come to pass, and yet nothing happened. By the fourth year, I decided I wasn’t going to pray about it anymore.
And then, I got it.
It was only then that I remembered what my mom used to say: when you pray, you’re sowing seeds, whether for now or for the future.
Another way to think about it is like writing a letter and sealing it with a stamp. By putting that seal on it, you’re trusting that only the intended recipient will open it.
In other words, Amen means trust. When we say, “In Jesus' mighty name, we’ve prayed, Amen,” we’re saying, I’ve sent my prayers to You, and I trust that You’ve received them and will respond in Your perfect timing.
Amen means “so be it.” It’s an act of trust, a declaration of faith, and a belief that what we’ve prayed has been answered, even if we can’t see it yet.
Thank You for reminding me that prayers don’t expire and that Your answers always come at the right time, even when I don’t understand. I wonder how many prayers I’ve prayed that are still waiting to bloom. But I’ll wait, and I’ll trust you because You’ve never failed me.
Waiting on You isn’t easy for me, but I’m trying to see it as preparation rather than delay. What prayers have I placed in Your hands? What seeds have I sown? Trusting Your timing is the ultimate act of faith, and I want to be better at it.
Love,
Your Daughter
